Here you can find information on how to get to Leipzig. We have also prepared options for participants of WCJS in Jerusalem (28 July -1 August) and IOSOT in Munich (4-9 August

By air:

  • Leipzig/Halle Airport

The airport schedule includes direct flights from London, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Milan or Vienna. Within Germany there are direct flights from Hamburg, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Frankfurt/Main, Stuttgart, Nuremberg and Munich.

  • Transport from the airport to the city center:
    • By train: Twice an hour, ca. 7€; schedule (download in PDF). It takes about 27 minutes to get to the city center.
    • By taxi: Taxi stands are located just outside Terminal B. The ride to the city center takes 30-40 minutes and costs approximately 50€.
  • Other German airports

You can fly to another German airport and then continue on by train/bus to Lepzig. In this case the recommended route would be: flight to Berlin, train to Leipzig. You can consider the option of Rail&Fly which gives you a train ticket to any German train station from any German airport for 29€.
  • Berlin (Tegel Airport, TXL) - Leipzig Hbf: First you take a bus from Tegel airport to Berlin Washingtonplatz/Hauptbahnhof, followed by an ICE train to Leipzig Hbf.
    • Time: 2 hours
    • Cost: 50€
  • Frankfurt Airport (FRA) - Lepzig Hbf: ICE train (there is a train station at Frankfurt aiport that has direct connections to Leipizg).
    • Time: 4 hours
    • Cost: 80€
  • Munich Airport (MUC) - Leipzig Hbf: A combination of IC and ICE trains
    • Time: 5+ hours
    • Cost: 100+€

By rail: Leipzig Hbf

There are direct IntercityExpress connections every hour from Cologne ??, Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Erfurt, Munich, Nuremberg and Dresden. There are non-stop Intercity connections from Magdeburg, Hannover, Bremen and Dortmund. Note: There are no reductions for students.

By car:

Motorways A9 (Berlin-Leipzig-Nürnberg-München) and A14 (Magdeburg-Leipzig-Dresden)
  • Coming from the South West, you can reach the city area by the new motorway A38 (Leipzig-Göttingen).
  • Coming from Berlin and Magdeburg: Take the A14 and exit at Leipzig-Mitte
  • Coming from Dresden: Take the A14 and exit at Leipzig-Ost
  • Coming from Munich, Nuremberg, Erfurt: Take the A38 and exit at Leipzig-Südwest

For participants of the World Congres of the Jewish Studies in Jerusalem

For those participating in the WCJS in Jerusalem and also participating in the EABS, we recommend taking a flight from Tel Aviv (TLV) to Berlin Tegel (TXL) (4,5 hours) and take an ICE train to Lepzig (2 hours, 50€ or 29€ in Rail&Fly).

For participants of IOSOT in Munich

For those participating in the EABS in Leipzig and who are also participating in the IOSOT in Munich, we recommend taking a direct flight from LEJ to MUC (1 hour, 70€ if booked well in advance). By train the journey takes 5 or more hours and costs approximately 100€.
